The History of MPCC

MP Cheer (formerly The Mount Prospect Cheerleading Club (MPCC)) consists of cheerleaders from Mount Prospect and surrounding suburbs. (Kindergarten through 8th grade). MP Cheer supports the Mount Prospect Football Association (MPFA) at their football games from the end of August to mid November.

The MPFA is a member of the Chicagoland Youth Football League (www.tcyfl.net).

MP Cheer also offers competitive cheerleading for 3rd through 8th graders. MP Cheer is a member of the Illinois Recreational Cheerleading Assocation (IRCA)
. The skills focused on in competition are cheer/dance routines including stunting. The competition practices are separate from football game practices and more physically demanding.

MP Cheer officially started in 2003- however, our foundation and organizational structuring began over 50 years ago working in conjunction with Mount Prospect’s Football Associations.

1956- Mount Prospect’s Midget Football Association started

Mount Prospect Midget Football and Little League were extremely popular in the 1950s. Parents were heavily involved in both and they were social activities for both the parents and children. Midget Football would hold a dance each year and funding showed that the festivities were not just for the children. Such activities were hosted by the "unofficial" wife-daughters cheerleading group in 1956-1957, before they became the MPMFAA in 1958.

1996- The Mt. Prospect Cheerleading Association, MPCA, offered children in grade schools the opportunity to cheer competitively without the added responsibility of supporting a sports team by cheering games. This new concept caught on slowly in Chicagoland up until about the year 2000 when new programs started popping up in the area. Over the first few seasons, MPCA's Knights Allstars added seven more cheerleading and dance teams for ages 4-18.

2003- Due to the huge growth in MPCA’s program, the Knights moved outside of Mount Prospect.

2003- Mount Prospect Cheerleading Club formed
