Competition Cheerleading FAQs


What are the MP Cheer competitions registration fees? 
IRCA Competitions, Competition Bow, Music, Practice T-shirt and Shorts, and Practice Space.

What do the Registration Fees include?
Cheer Bow, Parades, Annual Picnic, MP Cheer Off Performance, Annual MP Cheer Banquet, End of Season participation medal/trophy, Insurance, Park District Fees, Administrative Fees, Equipment/Storage, Advertising, First Aid/Safety Certifications.

Do I have to buy a uniform?

Yes. Once purchased, the uniform is yours to keep. 


Are there other items I need to purchase?

Yes. There are mandatory uniform items as well as spirit wear items you will be required to buy at registration.

What is the refund policy?

Please refer to the registration forms regarding our refund policy as it is subject to change.

When does the cheer season start?

Practices will begin around mid-July at the Team Manager’s and coach’s discretion. Mandatory practice begins the 2nd week of August.  

What time/day is practice?

Squads practice 3 days during the week for 2 hours each day until school starts. Days/times are at the Team Manager and coach’s discretion. Once school starts, practice is usually 3 times per week (2 weekdays in the evening and 1 Sunday with time TBD) for 1-1/2 to 2 hours each day. All days/times are at the individual squad’s Team Managers and coach’s discretion.

Where is practice?

Summer practice is held at various parks in the Mt. Prospect area. Once school begins competition cheer squads will practice indoors at various Mt. Prospect locations. 


Are practices Mandatory?

Yes.  See Cheer Attendance Policy.

Do I need to participate in the fundraisers?

Competition squads participate in two mandatory fundraisers.  You can opt to buyout of these fundraisers if you choose to.  More details about the fundraisers will be given at the competition meeting.


When does the season end?

The regular season ends in mid/November. If a squad qualifies for the IRCA State Competition their season will continue thru early December.

Do the cheerleaders participate in competitions?

Yes. There are four competitions each season with the State Championship if a team qualifies.

Are the competitions mandatory?

What are the competition dates?

You will be given the competition dates at the mandatory competition meeting.  An email will be sent with meeting details. 

Who will coach my child?

MP Cheer is an ALL VOLUNTEER organization. One-two parent volunteers from each squad will be “team managers” and 1-2 past MP Cheer cheerleaders will be “teen coaches.”

Will my child be placed on a squad with friends?

At the competition level it may or may not be possible to be on a squad with friends.  If a member joins at the same time as a few of their same grade level friends, they will most likely be placed together.  If a member is joining a year or two after a friend, they may not be placed together.
